*DAVID WILKERSON After installing the wide open “no-huddle spread” attack, Wilkerson’s offensive teams have been among the most prolific in the country for the past four seasons. In 2006 Wilkerson’s offense produced Mississippi’s 2nd leading receiver in freshman, Anthony Jones, as well as 2nd team All-State quarterback Brice Beck. During the Tigers’ 2005 run to a second consecutive North Division championship, the Tigers featured a balanced attack and were ranked twentieth in the nation in passing offense, eleventh in rushing offense and tenth total offense, averaging 399.2 yards per game. Before joining Coach Greening at Northeast, Wilkerson was the head football coach at class 5A Horn Lake High School where he led the team to its first-ever 10-win season. His offense led the state in points scored per game (38.4), yards per game (466) and total points scored (496). Prior to leading the program at Horn Lake, Wilkerson was the offensive coordinator at class 5A powers Tupelo, South Panola, Pearl and Pensacola Pine Forest in Pensacola, Florida. He also worked as athletic director and head football coach at class 3A New Albany. On the college level Wilkerson spent time at Delta State University and at Mississippi Delta Community College. Wilkerson is privileged to have worked under four Hall of Fame coaches-- Ben Jones, Willis Wright, Boo Ferriss and Carl Madison (Florida) during his career and played for Northeast Hall of Famer, Coach Bill Ward where he and Coach Greening were teammates from 1975-77. Wilkerson played football and earned a bachelor’s degree in physical education for the University of North Alabama in 1979. He earned a Master of Science in Physical Education from Delta State University in 1981. When Wilkerson is not devoting his time to the Northeast Tigers, he travels all over America speaking at clinics, conducting camps, and making coaching videos on offensive football and the "spread" offense. Wilkerson is married to the former Donna Smith of Birmingham, Ala. They have three children; Cody, Cade and Chase. |
