Northeast Band
The 2006 edition of the “Show Band from Tiger Land” is made up of approximately 180 talented instrumentalists, guard, and dancers from three states in the mid-south.
Entering its 37th year, the band is led on the field by drum majors Joel Barron of Red Bay, Alabama; Zack Feazell of Alcorn Central; and Dustin Thrasher of Ripley. These student leaders will share the responsibility of conducting the Northeast Tiger Band.
The Tiger Marching Band is directed by Robert Plunkett and Bryan Mitchell. The guard instructor is Amy Langley, and Rebecca Cole (Kossuth) is Dance Instructor.
On October 21st, the Northeast Tiger Band will again host the “Dixie Marching Band Championship”. Over 10,000 students and spectators from across the Mid-south will participate in this annual event which takes place at Keenum Stadium.
During this Christmas season, the Northeast Band will perform in seven Christmas parades helping bring Christmas joy to thousands of people throughout northeast Mississippi.
The Northeast band students make up two concert bands in the spring semester. Two basketball pep bands perform at each home game. The Northeast Jazz Band has several performances throughout the school year including the annual Jazz Band Dinner. This past spring, the Jazz Band performed at eight schools during the annual spring tour.
Woodwind, brass, and percussion ensembles are also open to Northeast band students and are available for performances for local groups and civic events. This year an indoor drum-line is going to be created which will be open to Northeast band students and any interested percussionists from our 5-county district.
This year’s halftime show is music from “Tower of Power” including some of their top hits: “You’re Still a Young Man”, “What Is Hip”, “Attitude Dance”, “Soul Vaccination”, and “So Very Hard To Go”. We hope you enjoy the music and show, and we appreciate the support given the Northeast Band by the school, alumni, family members and spectators. |
