BOONEVILLE, Miss.--Northeast Mississippi Community College head baseball coach Kent Farris announced on Tuesday the signing of Clinton High School senior Mitch Chappell to a letter of intent with the NEMCC baseball program. Chappell, a starting shortstop this past season for the Clinton Arrows, joins high school teammates Phillip Chapman and Rob Tadlock in Farris’ 2007 signing class at Northeast.
“Mitch is a good middle infielder,” said Farris. “He’s a good kid who swings the bat well, plays excellent defense, and comes from a winning program. Now that we’ve signed Mitch we’re stacked with middle infielders and now we can concentrate on rounding out our pitching staff.”
As a senior Chappell batted .318 and carried a .405 slugging percentage with 24 hits, four doubles, a triple, three homeruns, 28 RBI, and 24 runs scored on a team that made it to the class 5-A quarterfinals.
