THREE DISTRICT STANDOUTS SIGN WITH TIGERS

January 18, 2007

BOONEVILLE, Miss.--Northeast Mississippi Community College baseball coach Kent Farris has picked up the first three signees of his 2008 recruiting class. Brett Grantham (Corinth), Brad Luna (New Albany), and Zane Treadaway (East Union) have accepted baseball scholarship offers from Northeast, and will enroll at NEMCC in the fall of 2008. All three players are high school seniors who attend schools in Northeast’s five-county district.

“We protected all three of these guys,” said Farris. “We protected them for a reason. All three can fill multiple roles for us, they’re in-district kids, and they all are good enough players to immediately help us when they get here next season.”

Grantham is a right-handed pitcher/infielder for Coach Rod Scarborough at Corinth High School. As a junior, Grantham batted .372 and led the 21-8 Warriors in runs scored with 46. On the mound in ’07, Grantham was 2-0 and also notched two saves with a 2.94 ERA.

Luna is a five-year starter for Coach Curt Fowler at New Albany High School. The right-handed pitcher/infielder earned a 5-2 record on the mound as a junior for the Bulldogs while striking out 63 batters in 44 innings of work. Luna only walked 10 batters in ’07, holding opponents to a .159 average and compiling a team-best 0.79 ERA.

Treadaway is a four-year starting left-handed pitcher/outfielder for Coach Chris Basil at East Union. His career hitting totals include a .324 batting average with 127 hits and 93 RBI. Treadaway batted .406 as a junior in 2007. On the mound the southpaw has totaled 35 wins and just nine losses in 247 and two-thirds innings pitched, garnering a 1.69 ERA with 308 strikeouts while holding opponents to a .153 average.

Northeast’s 2008 baseball season will begin on Saturday, February 9, with a home double-header versus Marion (Ala.) Military Institute scheduled for 12 noon.
