3/30/08 TIGERS ERUPT WITH 9 HOMERUNS vs. NWCC; SENATOBIA, Miss.--Northeast Mississippi Community College's 2008 Tigers baseball squad used a total of nine homeruns to sweep a double-header versus Northwest Miss. CC on Saturday, March 29. Northeast (21-9, 4-0) used six homers in game one en-route to a 16-9 victory over the Rangers. Three more round-trippers in game two helped NEMCC come from behind for a 7-6 victory, keeping the Tigers perfect in MACJC (Mississippi Association of Community/Junior Colleges) North Division play. "Our kids stepped up in a big situation," said NEMCC head baseball coach Kent Farris. "Division wins are what gets you into the postseason so every game against Northwest, Itawamba, (Mississippi) Delta, and Coahoma means alot. We're off to a good start, but that's all it is: a start. We've got to focus on finishing strong in the entire month of April." Farris' Tigers have won six-straight, and 11-of-12. Game one versus Northeast saw the Tigers score 16 runs on 17 hits. Sophomore Chase Porch (East Union) led the way on the mound by getting his 7th win of the season. Porch is now 7-1. The slugger also did plenty of damage at the plate with three hits, two of which left the ballpark. Joining Porch in the homerun category in game one were Jason Chism (South Pontotoc), David Ellison (Houston), Kevin Williams (Corinth), and Rod Williams (Booneville). In game two it was more of the same for Northeast as Derrick Green (Muscle Shoals, Ala.), M.J. McWhorter (East Union), and Rod Williams all left the yard with homeruns. On the mound, Peter Vance (Mooreville) came on in relief to get the win (1-0) as Patrick Hinton (Kossuth) picked up his 8th save of the season. BOX SCORE vs. Northwest, Sat. March 29 Northeast will face Itawamba Community College on Tuesday, April 1, in a division double-header scheduled to start at 3 p.m. in Fulton, Miss. ###
