TIGERS SPLIT WITH NWCC AT HOME; BOX SCORE
NEMCC Wins 3-of-4 vs. Rangers In '08

BOONEVILLE, Miss.--Northeast Mississippi Community College's baseball squad held on to the number two spot in the MACJC North Division with a double-header split with Northwest CC on Tuesday, April 15, at Harold T. White field in Booneville.

Game one saw the two teams combine for 35 runs including five homeruns, as the visiting Rangers took the opener by a score of 18-17.

"That was just an unbelievable game," said NEMCC head coach Kent Farris. "It was just a tale of two teams that couldn't get each other out."

Wtih the two teams tied in division play (7-4) after the first game, it was the Northeast Tigers who found the desire to gut out a win in game two, 6-4. Northeast (28-14, 8-4) got monster solo homeruns from both Kevin Williams (Corinth) and Rod Williams (Booneville) in the late innings that proved to be the deciding difference.

At 8-4 in division play, the Tigers trail division leader Itawamba CC (9-1). Northeast will host ICC on Saturday, April 19.

"They put it on us pretty good in both games at their place earlier this season," said Farris. "Our first goal is to make the postseason, and we're in a position to do that. If we play well at home this Saturday (April 19) we'll be closer to making that happen."

The top two teams in the division will advance to the MACJC State Tournament, which will be hosted by the North Division champion this year.
