Tigers Two Wins From State Tournament Bid
BOONEVILLE, Miss.--Northeast Mississippi Community College's baseball team suffered two losses at home to Itawamba CC on Saturday, April 19, taking the Tigers out of contention for a (MACJC) North Division crown. However, Kent Farris' squad is still just two wins away from earning a spot in the 2008 Mississippi Association of Community/Junior Colleges State Tournament.
"We're disappointed that we didn't play any better on Saturday," said Farris. "But our goals are still in front of us, and that starts with the State Tournament. We can wrap up the number two spot from the North Division with a sweep of Coahoma this week."
Northeast (28-16, 8-6) will host Coahoma CC on Wednesday, April 23. Northwest CC pulled even with Northeast at 8-6 in division play this past weekend. However, Northeast owns the season series by winning 3-of-4 over the Rangers. Both teams only have one division double-header remaining.
First-pitch between Northeast and Coahoma on April 23 is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Harold T. White field in Booneville.
