January 22, 2007
BOONEVILLE, Miss.-- Northeast Mississippi Community College head baseball coach Kent Farris has announced the signing of Booneville High School senior Evan Pounds to a letter of intent to attend Northeast and play for the Tigers beginning in the fall of 2007.
Pounds, a catcher, started three seasons behind the plate for coach Bo Sandlin at Booneville High School. He carried a .341 batting average during that time, as well as a .449 slugging percentage and .987 fielding percentage. Pounds is the first singee in the class of 2007 for coach Kent Farris at Northeast.
“I’m extremely excited that Evan has chosen Northeast,” explained Kent Farris. “His high school stats speak for themselves, but more importantly I feel we’ve gotten a quality person, and an outstanding student in Evan. This is a great start for our recruiting season.”
Evan is the son of Stan and Wilda Pounds of Booneville, Miss. Wilda Pounds is a Science Instructor at Northeast Mississippi Community College.
Coach Kent Farris will introduce Evan Pounds to Northeast fans at halftime of the men’s basketball game between Northeast and East Mississippi, tonight at Bonner Arnold Coliseum.
