NORTHEAST POUNDS COAHOMA FOR 2nd STRAIGHT WIN

October 22, 2007

CLARKSDALE, Miss.-- Northeast's defensive front of Mario Addison, B.J. Taylor, Emanuel Dudley, and Jonathon Holsten dominated the line of scrimmage and helped the Tigers to their second consecutive victory, 36-6 over Coahoma Community College on Saturday, October 20 in Clarksdale, Miss.

The Tiger "D" held Coahoma off the scoreboard for three quarters and only allowed 190 yards of total offense on the day.

"It was a great effort by those four guys up front," said Northeast head coach Andy Greening. "Our whole defense played well, and most importantly they kept the intensity the whole 60 minutes."

Northeast got the scoring started in the 2nd quarter when Cederian Drew (Greenville) registered a 3-yard touchdown run that was set up earlier by a Jonathon Holsten (Tallahassee, FL) fumble return deep into Coahoma territory.

Later, the Tigers would extend their lead with a defensive safety, a 40-yard touchdown reception by Bernard Luster (Corinth), and a 1-yard touchdown run by quarterback Emanuel Francis (Tallahassee, FL) to take a 23-0 lead into halftime.

Neither team could manage points in the third quarter. Coahoma finally found paydirt with a 26-yard scoring pass on the first play of the fourth quarter.

Northeast added two more scores in the fourth. Corian Goodwin (Tuscumbia, AL) registered his first career touchdown reception with 13:15 to play, and back-up quarterback Layton Jones got his first career touchdown run from four yards out with 9:34 to play, capping the scoring on the afternoon.

Defensively, Northeast grabbed five Coahoma turnovers, three fumbles and two interceptions. That coupled with outstanding punting by Jonathon Beard (42.8 yard average on five punts) gave the Tigers a field position advantage most of the afternoon. Sophomore C.J. Foster (Tuscumbia, AL) recorded his third interception of the season, while freshman linebacker Cordell Boclair grabbed his first pick.

Mario Addison had a career day from his defensive end spot, with 9.5 total tackles including a sack and 3.5 tackles for losses

Coach Andy Greening and the Northeast Tigers will wrap-up the 2007 campaign with a North-Division home contest against Holmes Community College on Thursday night, October 25 at Keenum Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
