EMCC's GAULT LEADS NORTH ALL-STARS IN 17-14 WIN

December 1, 2007

BOONEVILLE, Miss.--East Mississippi Community College quarterback Jare Gault led the North Division all-star team to a 17-14 win, by running for one touchdown and throwing for another in the 34th annual Mississippi Association of Community/Junior College (MACJC) All-Star Classic on Saturday, December 1, at Keenum stadium on the campus of Northeast Mississippi Community College in Booneville.

Hinds Community College wide receiver Carlos Everette opened the scoring with a 60-yard punt return for touchdown with 8:55 to play in the first quarter. Brad Bingham's (Pearl River CC) extra point gave the South all-stars a 7-0 lead.

Northeast Mississippi CC kicker Jonathon Beard got the North team on the board with a 32-yard field goal into the wind with 14:02 remaining in the 2nd quarter. His kick capped a 16-play, 58-yard drive that ate up over nine minutes on the game clock, and cut the lead to 7-3.

Gault gave the North all-star team the lead with a 14-yard touchdown run at the 10:35 mark of the second quarter. However, South team offensive MVP, running back Jasper Ducksworth of Jones County Junior College put his squad back on top with a 7-yard scoring sprint with 4:39 left until halftime. Bingham's kick made it 14-10 at the break.

After a scoreless third quarter, Gault, voted the North team's offensive MVP, hit Itawamba Community College receiver Chris Wilson with a 22-yard scoring pass to put the North on top for good. Beard's kick made it 17-14, which became the game's final margin.

Mississippi Delta Community College defensive lineman Cory Moncrief was voted the North team's defensive MVP, while Hinds Community College linebacker Carlos Meeks earned the same award for the South by totaling 3.5 tackles, one sack for minus eight yards, and one tackle-for-loss for minus eight yards.

Mississippi Delta running back Keithan Valentine earned the game's overall MVP award by gaining 65 yards on eight carries, averaging 8.1 per rushing attempt.
