SALTILLO'S PARSONS SIGNS WITH NEMCC
January 15, 2008
BOONEVILLE, Miss.-- Saltillo High School senior Tyler Parsons signed a letter of intent to play golf for Coach Craig Lauderdale at Northeast Mississippi Community College on Wednesday, January 16. Following his graduation from SHS this spring, Tyler will enroll at Northeast in the fall of 2008.
“Tyler is a solid player who loves the game of golf, and is an excellent student,” said Lauderdale. “He can be a par-shooter for us, and sometimes will shoot in the high 60’s. I’m really excited that Tyler chose Northeast.”
Parsons played on a Saltillo H.S. team that competed in the state tournament the last two years, and finished in 7th place individually as a junior in 2007 after firing two consecutive rounds of 78 at the class 4A event in Southaven. In addition, Tyler has competed the last four years on the Coca-Cola Junior Golf Tour. Last summer Parsons finished in the top eight of the 16-18 year old division at the Coca-Cola Jr. Tour championship at Old Waverly in West Point.
“I’m excited,” Parsons said. “I really like Coach Lauderdale, and I know I’ll enjoy working with him. I just want to work hard, get better, and be on a successful team.”
Last year Lauderdale led the Northeast Tigers golf team to Division III State/Region XXIII titles including an 11th place team finish at the NJCAA National Tournament in Jamestown, N.Y.
