DEVAUGHN FINISHES 5th AT CO-LIN INVITATIONAL
WESSON, Miss.-- Northeast Mississippi Community College sophomore golfer Derek Devaughn (Booneville) put together rounds of 77 and 75 at the Co-Lin CC Invitational tournament on April 13-14 at Wolf Hollow Golf Club in Wesson. Devaughn’s two day total (152) earned All-Tournament team recognition to go along with a 5th place finish in the individual category among all Division II and Division III competitors.
“Definitely, the experience of playing at Wolf Hollow twice last year helped,” said Devaughn. “I’m the only sophomore on our team this year, and I’m starting to get a little more comfortable in that leadership role.”
Devaughn’s Northeast Tigers are competing in their last year of NJCAA Division-III competition (non-scholarship) and finished the 2008 tournament trail this past weekend by completing back-to-back undefeated seasons. Up next for the Tigers is the State/Region XXIII Championship to be held on April 28-29 at Forrest Country Club in Forrest, Miss.
“Derek is playing his best golf her at the end of the season,” said NEMCC golf coach Craig Lauderdale. “That’s what you expect from your leader. I’m really proud of Derek, because he’s a great example of what determination and hard work can do for you.”
