TIGERS REMAIN UNBEATEN IN D-III;
WILLIAMS, SHIPMAN, BUTLER, DEVAUGHN, & HIGHT WITH ROUNDS IN THE 70's AT NWCC INVITATIONAL
April 3, 2007
SARDIS, Miss.-- After firing a season low score of 304 on day one of the Northwest Invitational golf tournament, the Northeast Mississippi Community College men’s golf team fired an equally impressive 309 during today’s windy, round two conditions to secure a sixth straight MACJC (Mississippi Association of Community/Junior Colleges) Division III win for the Tigers, as well as a fourth place overall finish at Mallard Pointe Golf Course in Sardis, Miss.
Coach Craig Lauderdale’s Northeast team boasted five of its six golfers with scores in the 70’s on day two, led by Chase Williams (Alcorn Central) and Hunter Shipman (Kossuth) with rounds of 75. Derek Devaughn (Booneville) added a 76 for the Tigers, followed by Curt Butler (Corinth) and Jared Hight (Alcorn Central), both shooting 79, and Jared Harding (Cordova, Tenn.) with an 83.
“Today’s conditions were tough,” said Craig Lauderdale. “The wind was howling all day, and this course is tough enough without the wind. But it was tough on everybody else as well. We all had to play in the same conditions, so hat’s off to the three teams that finished ahead of us in the overall competition. Still, it’s a great win and it keeps on track to earn a spot at the division three national tournament up in New York in June.”
Meridian Community College golfers finished first overall, followed by host Northwest Community College in second, and Hinds Community College in third.
