NORTHEAST BASKETBALL TEAMS SET FOR HOME OPENER
BOONEVILLE, Miss. – Northeast Mississippi Community College men and women’s basketball teams will open their 2009-10 home slate in the freshly renovated Bonner Arnold Coliseum on Thursday, November 5.
Northeast is set to battle Northwest Shoals (Ala.) in the home opener for both the Lady Tigers and Tigers.
David Robbins’ Tiger team comes into Bonner Arnold Coliseum after a heart-breaking loss to sixth-ranked Wallace State (Ala.)-Hanceville during the season opener on Monday, November 2 while Ricky Ford’s Lady Tigers will begin their season in the friendly confines of Bonner Arnold Coliseum.
Northeast will be making three debuts during the 2009-10 home opener.
Not only will the crowd get its first glimpse at the 2009-10 Lady Tiger and Tiger basketball team but it will also serve as the debut for Bonner Arnold Coliseum after the gymnasium underwent extensive renovations for the first time since the early 1970s.
With the completion of the project in August, Northeast had invested nearly $1.5 million to completely renovate one of the most recognized athletic venues in the state.
Included in the recent updates to the building were repair and renovation of the men and women’s dressing rooms; painting of interior and exterior trim; installation of a new roof; repair to the heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment and tuck-pointing and repair to mortar joints in the exterior brickwork.
Most noticeably, fans will notice two major changes to the coliseum’s interior.
Both sides of the gymnasium have been equipped with padded chair-back seating donated by the University of Mississippi. The coliseum floor was also updated with repair to the hardwood and the playing surface was completely refinished with a new paint job.
Tip-off for the women is set for 5 p.m. followed by the men at 7 p.m.
