NEMCC WOMEN COMPLETE SWEEP OF NORTHWEST

BOONEVILLE, Miss.--  Coach Ricky Ford’s Northeast Lady Tigers basketball team completed a season sweep of the Northwest Community College women with an 82-80 victory in overtime, Monday night, February 12, at Bonner Arnold Coliseum in Booneville.

The game was tied 67-67 at the end of regulation, and with seven seconds remaining in the first overtime, was tied 80-80. Northeast sophomore Whitney Mayes (Corinth) took the inbounds pass at mid-court, drove through the heart of the Lady Rangers defense and knocked down the winning shot with 2.1 seconds remaining on the clock. The basket counted for two of Mayes’ 17 points on the night.

Northeast (14-6, 8-2) was led in scoring by preseason All-American, Krystal Robinson (Covington, Tenn.) who poured in 20 points. Erica Harvell added 12.

Northeast has two division games remaining on the schedule, both road contests. The Lady Tigers currently lead the MACJC (Mississippi Association of Community/Junior Colleges) North Divison by a half-game over Mississippi Delta Community College.

East Mississippi Community College will host Northeast on Thursday, February 15, in Scooba, Miss.

The game can be heard on the radio on WKZU, 102.3 FM, or on live streaming audio at www.kudzu102.com.
