NEMCC'S WIN SECURES NORTH DIV. TITLE
MOORHEAD, Miss.-- Coach Ricky Ford’s Northeast Mississippi Community College women’s basketball team secured a fourth consecutive MACJC (Mississippi Association of Community/Junior Colleges) North Division title with a victory over Mississippi Delta, 68-58, Monday night, February 19, in Moorhead.
Northeast (16-6, 10-2) was led in scoring by Krystal Robinson (Covington, Tenn.) with 22 points. The preseason All-American is now averaging over 14 points per game this season. Erica Grayson (Corinth) came away with a double-double that included 18 points and 12 rebounds.
After falling behind in the first half and trailing at halftime 35-28, the Lady Tigers used an 18-2 second half run to propel them to victory. “We didn’t play well in the first half at all,” coach Ford said, “but our girls showed a lot of pride and character to come out and play the way they did in the second half. Now we look ahead to the state tournament which will be a huge challenge for us.”
Northeast will be the North Division’s number one seed at the MACJC State Tournament on February 26 – March 1. The tournament is set to be hosted by the South Division women’s champion, which will most likely be Co-Lin Community College in Wesson, Miss.
