NEMCC'S STROUD INKS WITH BLUE MOUNTAIN COLLEGE
BOONEVILLE, Miss.-- As a sophomore guard in 2006-07, Shayla Stroud helped lead the Northeast Mississippi Community College women’s basketball team to its second consecutive MACJC (Mississippi Association of Community/Junior Colleges) State title, and today the 5’6” New Site, Miss. native signed a letter of intent to finish her basketball career at Blue Mountain College.
Stroud started 24 of 25 games this season for Coach Ricky Ford at Northeast, averaging five points a game and two rebounds per contest. Known as a defensive specialist and ball handler, Stroud still managed to contribute offensively by knocking down over 30-percent of her three point shots this season. Stroud poured in a season high 20 points versus Columbia State (Tenn.) on January 29.
“Shayla will be an asset to Coach (Lavon) Driskell at Blue Mountain,” Ricky Ford stated. “She has a motor that never stops. She will defend the basketball with the best of them, and she never quits. She sets the example for the kind of attitude and work ethic you want out of a player. I wish she could come back to Northeast another year, but since she can’t I’m tickled she chose Blue Mountain.”
Stroud becomes the first Lady Tigers sophomore to sign on the dotted line with a 4-year school this spring.
