LADY TIGERS OFF TO FAST 2-0 START

BOONEVILLE, Miss.--  Defending MACJC State Champs and nationally ranked (No. 17) Northeast Lady Tigers basketball is off to another great start in 2007-08 after grabbing victories in the season's first two games at the Itawamba Tipoff Tournament on November 1-2 over Bevill State-Fayette (Ala.) in overtime 87-83, and over Columbia State (Tenn.) by 28-points, 99-71.

Freshman post player Eboni Crayton (McNairy Central, Tenn.) led the Lady Tigers in scoring both days with a 22-point performance against Bevill State, and besting that total by one point a day later with 23 versus Columbia State.

Crayton wasn't the only Lady Tiger to put up double digits at the season opening tournament. Against Bevill State, sophomore Erica Grayson (Corinth) and freshman Imie Hall (Brownsville, Tenn.) poured in 17 points each, while freshman point guard Suzanne Ford contributed 14.

In Friday's victory over Columbia, Grayson added 18 points, while Hall pitched in with 12 points and eight assists.

"Overall I'm glad we're 2-0 to start the season," said Lady Tigers' head coach Ricky Ford, "but we're pretty lucky to be 2-0 because we blew a big lead against Bevill in the first game, and had to use a miracle, half-court shot by Imie Hall to get into overtime. Thankfully that happened and we won. Our focus was better in the latter parts of the second game."

Northeast's Lady Tigers will host Northwest Shoals Community College at Bonner Arnold Coliseum on Monday, Nov. 5. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.
