FORD ADDS FOUR LOCAL STARS TO '08 SIGNING CLASS
BOONEVILLE, Miss.-- Northeast Mississippi Community College head women’s basketball coach and athletic director Ricky Ford has added four more signees to his 2008 class. Chelsea McWilliams (Red Bay, Ala.), Miranda Phillips (Water Valley), Shefarrah Turner (Oxford), and Ranisha Williams (Pontotoc) all have inked with Northeast and will suit up for Ford and the Lady Tigers in the fall of 2008.
“These are obviously big-time additions for us,” Ford said. “All four of these girls bring and extra level of athleticism to our team that we did not have this past season.”
Chelsea McWilliams averaged 16 points, five rebounds, and two steals per game as a senior at Red Bay H.S. The 5’10 forward was an All-North Alabama All-Star team selection, and All-Franklin County team member following both her junior and senior seasons. The younger sister of former Mississippi State University track and field All-American Tiffany McWilliams, Chelsea was a state champion in the high-jump and 400 meters in 2004, 2005, and 2006.
Miranda Phillips averaged 15 points, eight rebounds, and three steals per contest as a senior at Water Valley High School. The 5’10 forward was the Division 2-2A Player of the Year in 2007 and 2008, and was named All-Division 2-2A performer during all four years of her high school career. Phillips was an MHSAA All-State Honorable Mention selection following her senior campaign.
Shefarrah Turner averaged nearly a double-double this past season at Oxford High School with 11 points, and nine rebounds per game. The 5’11 forward was named All-Region 2-4A following her senior year for the Lady Chargers.
Ranisha Williams played an important part in the Pontotoc Lady Warriors’ success this past season. The 5’7 guard/forward averaged 11 points, four rebounds, and three steals per game. Williams was named All-Division 1-4A as both a junior, and a senior.
Ford’s current number of 2008 signees now stands at eight.
