LADY WARRIORS CHOP DOWN THE LADY TIGERS ON HARDWOOD
BOONEVILLE, Miss.-- Northeast Mississippi Community College women’s basketball team was in action again on Thursday night December 4, in Decatur, Mississippi facing the East Central Warriors.
The Lady Tigers hit the hardwood and quickly jumped out to a one point lead 6-5 at the 18:15 mark after Suzanne Ford hit a three point shot. Unfortunately, for the Lady Tigers, that would be the last lead they would see on the evening as the Lady Warriors went on to win the game by one point.
Northeast (4-4) trailed the Lady Warriors by eight points at halftime 41-33.
But in the second half the Lady Tigers came out on fire as they went on an 8-0 run to tie up the ball game 41-41 at the 17:50 mark. But once again the Lady Warriors would hold off the rally and with 12:30 left to play in the game would increase their lead to nine points 54-45.
Later in the second half the Lady Tigers would battle back and cut the deficit to just two points with 2:39 left to play in the game with a score of 70-68. Northeast’s Charnise Mitchell, a six-foot freshman from Florence, Ala., led the charge for the Lady Tigers with 19 points on the evening.
In the closing seconds of the ball game, Northeast’s All-American Eboni Crayton stole the ball on the inbound pass from the Lady Warriors, and then passed the ball to guard Bionca Hill who attempted the game winning shot as the buzzer sounded; unfortunately Hill missed the shot and set the final score at 76-75 in favor of East Central.
The Lady Tigers will be back in action at Bonner Arnold Coliseum for their last two games of the year next week. A division match-up with Holmes will be on Monday, December 8, tip-off is set for 6 p.m. and that will be followed by a Saturday game on December 13, tip-off is set for 1 p.m.
