LADY TIGERS' SECOND HALF RALLY FALLS SHORT IN SENATOBIA
BOONEVILLE, Miss.-- Northeast Mississippi Community College women’s basketball team was in action again on Monday night, January 12, in Senatobia, Mississippi where they faced the Northwest Lady Rangers.
The Lady Tigers struggled against the full court pressure of Northwest in the first half and trailed 53-34 at the half.
Northeast shot just 1-of-8 from behind the arc and was 13-of-32 (40 percent) from the floor in the first half, while the Lady Rangers hit on 6-of-17 from downtown and 18-of-34 on the floor (52 percent).
In the second half it was all Lady Tigers early as they opened up with a 24-10 run and tied the score 64-64 at the 9:12 mark on a lay-up by Rumae Butler a 5’8” freshman guard from Belmont, Mississippi.
Eboni Crayton then gave Coach Ford's team its first lead of the game at 66-65 with 7:18 left to play in the game.
Unfortunately for the Lady Tigers, Northwest would reclaim the lead using the press and pushed the score to 75-68 with 4:02 left in the game.
Suzanne Ford hit a deep three-pointer at the 1:53 mark to tie the game up 75-75, but that was as close as Northeast would get as the Lady Rangers out scored them 11-3 down the stretch to seal the win.
"We didn’t play with much intensity in the first half, but I thought in the second half we came out and fought back into the game but unfortunately we still came away with the loss" said Coach Ricky Ford.
With the loss the Lady Tigers fall to 1-2 in North Division play and 5-8 overall.
They will face Itawamba Community College at Bonner Arnold Coliseum on January 15. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
