LADY TIGERS CRUISE PAST LADY BULLDOGS; BULLDOGS DEFEAT TIGERS

 

GOODMAN, Miss. --  Northeast Mississippi Community College Lady Tigers cruised past the Holmes Lady Bulldogs while the Tigers fell short in a north division road game against the Bulldogs Holmes on Thursday night in Goodman, Mississippi.

The Tigers (10-10, 2-5) shot 10-of-31 from the floor and were 0-of-5 from downtown while the Bulldogs shot 11-of-29 and hit 3-of-5 three pointers to take a 29-26 lead at the break.

In the second half, the Northeast’s John Sexton hit a deep three at the 14:30 mark to pull the Tigers to within three points 38-35.  Northeast would eventually go on to take a 49-45 lead at the  8:50 mark. 

The lead was brief however, as Holmes (13-6, 4-3) would continue to execute their full court press and along with a break or two, post the 74-62 victory.

Northeast was led in scoring by Chris Gamble who hit on 5-of-9 from the floor and shot 100-percent from the foul line (4-4) and finished with 14 points.  Andre Southern also finished in double-digits for the Tigers with 11 points.

Jeremy Lightfoot led the Bulldogs in scoring with 17 points and pulled down 12 rebounds for the Bulldogs.  Holmes out rebounded Northeast 48-33 for the game.

In the opening game of the evening, the Lady Tigers were able to cruise past the Lady Bulldogs by 20 points 72-52, with an impressive display of hustle and determination.

Northeast fought their way to a three-point halftime advantage while only shooting 36-percent from the floor, unable to connect from downtown shooting 0-for-7 from the three point line in first half action.

The Lady Bulldogs hit on 5-of-21 from behind the arc in the first half and shot 11-of-36 from the floor.

C. O' Bryant pulled down five rebounds and hit 17 points for Holmes to lead her team in scoring on the evening.

Northeast was led by Miranda Phillips who snatched down five boards at hit 15 points on the night to push Northeast to 8-10 over all and 3-4 in the North Division.  Eboni Crayton and Ranisha Williams both scored in double digits. Crayton scored 12 points, while Williams added 13 points for Northeast.  The Lady Tigers out rebounded Holmes 64-38.

The Tigers and Lady Tigers have back-to-back home dates with Mississippi Delta and Northwest on Feb. 2 and Feb. 5 respectively.
