LADY TIGER BASKETBALL TEAM INKS THREE FROM ALCORN CENTRAL

BOONEVILLE, Miss. – Northeast Mississippi Community College women’s basketball coach Ricky Ford made a splash with a trio of signings on the first day that high school players could ink with colleges.

Ford reaped the rewards from a three-player signing at Alcorn Central High School in Glen capturing the reigning Division 1-3A Player of the Year and a pair of Alcorn County standouts.

Ford signed ACHS’ Chelsey Whitaker, Tatum Lewis and Taylre Ford to scholarships in a ceremony at the school.

Whitaker, a 5-8 guard, averaged 15 points and five assists a game for the Lady Bears. Whitaker was named the 2009 Division 1-3A Player of the Year and was also selected to the Division 1-3A All-Division and All-Alcorn County teams in 2009.

Lewis, a 5-8 guard, averaged 16 points and three steals for the Lady Bears while being named to the Class 3A All-State team.

Lewis was also selected as a Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal third team All-Area selection.

Whitaker and Lewis will take part in the Northeast Mississippi Coaches for Better Basketball (NEMCBB) All-Star game held during the 2009 summer.

Joining her teammates on the next level, Ford grabbed six rebounds a game for the Lady Bears.

A 5-9 forward, Ford also checked in with 10 points a game for Alcorn Central on the season.

Ford was also selected to the Division 1-3A All-Division team as well as the 2009 All-Alcorn County team.

Northeast’s Ricky Ford led the Lady Tigers to a berth in the Mississippi Association of Community/Junior Colleges’ (MACJC) State Tournament in 2008-09 before bowing out to Region XXIII runner-up Copiah-Lincoln in the first round..
