NORTHEAST BASEBALL PLAYERS BECOME PART OF BLUE MOUNTAIN HISTORY

BOONEVILLE, Miss. – Northeast Mississippi Community College baseball players Seth Kennedy (Iuka) and Zane Treadaway (East Union) helped the Northeast baseball team create history during the 2009 season.

Now, the Tiger teammates are part of the record books at Blue Mountain College.

Kennedy and Treadaway became the first players to sign grants-in-aid with the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) School’s fledgling baseball program when they both inked on the same day.

Recently, Blue Mountain College announced that it would begin playing baseball and softball during the 2010-11 season in the NAIA’s TranSouth Athletic Conference.

Northeast alumni Curt Fowler and Kevin Barefield will be in charge of the fledging programs. Fowler will lead the Toppers while Barefield will head up the Lady Toppers softball program.

Kennedy and Treadaway helped lead the 2009 Northeast Tiger baseball to a 33-14 record and a 17-7 mark in the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) North Division finishing second in the division after beating Itawamba Community College on the final day of the regular season. Northeast advanced to the MACJC state tournament for the second straight year but dropped a best-of-three series to Jones County Junior College in the first round.

Kennedy, an outfielder and designated hitter for the Tigers, batted .373 for the Tigers while racking up three home runs, 14 doubles and 30 runs batted in (RBI).

Treadaway, a left-handed pitcher, put together a 2-1 record on the mound for the Tigers in 2009 while amassing a 3.22 earn run average (ERA) in 22.1 innings. Treadaway recorded 16 strikeouts against just eight walks in his 22 innings on the mound for the Tigers.
