NORTHEAST BASEBALL READIES FOR SECOND ALUMNI GAME
BOONEVILLE, Miss. – “Once a Tiger, Always a Tiger,” is back as Northeast Mississippi Community College preps for its second-annual Northeast Baseball Alumni Weekend on Saturday, October 17.
Approximately 75 former Northeast baseball players reunited for the inaugural event on November 8, 2008 at Harold T. White Field at Booneville City Park and took part in the festivities that included an old timers’ game.
Players dating back to Tiger teams of the 1950s stood side-by-side with modern athletes as a pair of teams battled it out with each team using a variety of pitchers ranging from the 1970s through the 2008 season to try to quell the opposition.
“We wanted this day to be one entirely of recognizing those from past teams,” said Northeast Head Baseball Coach Kent Farris. “They have provided the foundation for our program and are responsible for what we have today.”
During the 2008 event, Farris was the one recognized before the Old Timers’ Game as members of the 1962 state championship team along with their coach Hal Hughes made the day a momentous occasion by presenting Farris with the 1962 State Championship trophy and a photo of the team.
Farris would like to encourage pre-registration via the Northeast Athletic website so T-shirts can be order and an estimated number of attendees can be determined.
