TIGERS EARN TRIP TO REGION XXIII TOURNAMENT
4th Place Finish at MACJC State Tournament

BOONEVILLE, Miss.--Northeast Mississippi Community College baseball coach Kent Farris, in just his 2nd season as skipper of the Tigers' program, has led his team to the 2008 Region XXIII tournament thanks to a fourth place finish in the Mississippi Association of Community/Junior Colleges (MACJC) State Tournament.

Northeast's 9-3 victory over Mississippi Gulf Coast CC on Friday, May 2, at the State Tournament sealed the Tigers' bid to the next phase of the postseason. The winner of the Region XXIII tourney will advance to the NJCAA Division-II World Series.

"We knew going into the State Tournament that we needed one win to earn a trip to the Region (tournament)," said Farris. "Our guys played well on Saturday. It's a tremendous accomplishment for our team to advance farther into the postseason and keep our season going."

Region tournament play begins for Northeast (32-18) on Wednesday, May 14. The event's championship game will be played on Saturday, May 17. Pearl River CC in Poplarville, Miss., will host the Tournament.
