TRANSFER COMPLETES OUTSTANDING SIGNING CLASS @ NEMCC
BOONEVILLE, Miss.-- Northeast Mississippi Community College head men’s basketball coach David Robbins recently added junior college transfer Chris Ivy to his 2007 signing class. Ivy comes to NEMCC via transfer from Volunteer State Community College in Gallatin, Tenn.
Ivy, a 6’6”, 220 lb wing/small forward, averaged a double-double this past season at Volunteer State with 14 points and 12 rebounds per game. The talented shooter/rebounder led the TJCAA (Tennessee Junior College Athletic Association) in double-doubles during the 2006-07 season.
“Signing Chris was our way of putting an exclamation point on the signing class,” said David Robbins. “He’s big, strong, and athletic. Because of his size he can post up and rebound, but he’s athletic enough to play outside and be a shooter too. He’s a guy who is always upbeat, with a big smile on his face, and I can promise you I’m smiling from ear to ear now that Chris will be wearing that black and gold uniform next season.”
A 70.3 percent free-throw shooter at VSCC, Ivy averaged 18 points and 9 rebounds per game at Central High School in Memphis, Tenn. during his senior season in 2005-06.
“After meeting Coach Robbins, and Coach (Maurice) Stafford, and coming down and visiting with my family, I knew I needed to be here,” said Ivy. “The coaches are the kind of people I want to play for. I think I can help turn things in the right direction quickly. With the guys we’ve got coming in here, I think this year is going to be a lot of fun.”
