TIGERS & LADY TIGERS GET LEAGUE WINS OVER NWCC
BOONEVILLE, Miss.-- Northeast's basketball teams accomplished a home-sweep of the visiting Northwest Rangers & Lady Rangers on Thursday night, January 17, at Bonner Arnold Coliseum. With the "W's" the Tigers and Lady Tigers move up in the MACJC North Division standings.
Erica Grayson (Corinth) paced the Northeast women (5-9, 2-2) with 19 points in a 75-66 win. Freshman Eboni Crayton (Selmer, Tenn.) joined Grayson in double-figures with 17 points, as did freshman Suzanne Ford (Booneville) with 14, and sophomore Kountess Welch (Calhoun City) with 11 points. Welch was the Lady Tigers' leading rebounder with 9.
Coach David Robbins' Northeast Tigers (10-6, 3-1) continue to streak, having now won six of their last seven contests, three of those victories counting in the division standings.
The Tigers' 95-78 win was sparked by four players in double-digit scoring led by sophomore guard Travis Lee (Tallahassee, FL) with 25. Ken Moore (Tallahassee, FL) added 16 for the Tigers, followed by William Burdette (New Albany) and Cordero Bowen (Olive Branch) with 13 points each. Sophomore Andre Thomas (Vicksburg) had 9 points for Northeast and was a perfect 4-of-4 from field goal range.
Northeast's men now stand alone in 2nd place in the North Division standings.
Northeast will host East Mississippi CC in men's and women's games on Tuesday, January 22, at Bonner Arnold Coliseum on the NEMCC campus.
The women's game will tip at 6 p.m. followed by the men at 8 p.m.
