4/8/08 JOHN SEXTON TRANSFERS TO NORTHEAST; BOONEVILLE, Miss.-- Northeast Mississippi Community College head men’s basketball coach David Robbins has announced that former West Union High School star John Sexton will transfer to NEMCC and will play for the Tigers during the 2008-09 season. Sexton played this past season at The College of William & Mary (Va.) as a true freshman. “We’re thrilled that John is going to be a Tiger next season,” said Robbins. “Basketball fans in North Mississippi know John because of all he was able to accomplish in high school, and in our offense, he’ll be able to excel at this level as well.” Sexton finished his high school career with 2,969 points. As a senior at West Union H.S. the 6’3 guard averaged a triple-double with 32.7 points, 12 rebounds, and 11.1 assists per game to go along with four steals per contest. As a junior in 2005-06, Sexton was named the NE Mississippi Daily Journal Player of the Year. While playing for his stepfather, David Baldwin, at West Union, John had nine games of over 40 points in two seasons, including a career-high 50 points against South Pontotoc on December 15, 2006. John was named a pre-season Clarion Ledger Mississippi Dandy Dozen selection prior to his senior season, and later set a North Mississippi All-Star Game scoring record with 38 points. John, who graduated third in his class at West Union, will have one year of eligibility at NEMCC under head coach David Robbins. ###
