TRAVIS LEE CHOOSES TROY UNIVERSITY

BOONEVILLE, Miss.-- Northeast Mississippi Community College sophomore Travis Lee chose to sign with Troy University and will continue his education as well as his basketball career with the Trojans in the fall of 2008. Lee made his choice known at a signing ceremony at NEMCC on Wednesday, April 23. Lee recently narrowed his choices to Troy and Jacksonville State, before signing with the Sun Belt Conference school.

“It’s a good fit for me,” said Lee. “They needed a shooter right away, and I fit what they were looking for. They said that I proved I could score this past season here at Northeast and I feel like I’ll have a shot at plenty of playing time my first year there.”

Lee finished the 2007-08 season as the nation’s 22nd best scorer at 21.6 points per game according to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA). Lee was among the nation’s top-25 most accurate long-distance shooters, making 94 of 195 three-point attempts (48.2%).

The Tallahassee, Florida, native was the leading three-point shooter on a Northeast Tigers team that led the nation in 3-point accuracy (45.95%) at season’s end.

“Travis is a coach’s dream,” said David Robbins, head men’s coach at NEMCC. “He was in the gym early, and stayed late every day. The young man didn’t miss a single class the entire time he was here at Northeast. He’ll be successful in whatever he does, wherever he goes, and he will excel at Troy.”

Under Travis Lee’s leadership this past season, the Northeast Tigers finished 17-12 overall, winning games in both the MACJC State and Region XXIII tournaments.
