NEMCC 2009 SIGNING DAY A SUCCESS

BOONEVILLE, Miss. -- Northeast Mississippi Community College Head Football Coach Ricky Smither has announced that 38 high school athletes signed with the Northeast football program for the 2009 recruiting class.
Northeast captured 15 in-district recruits including 12 from Northeast's five-county area.
NEMCC's five-county area includes the northeast Mississippi counties of Alcorn, Tishomingo, Prentiss, Union and Tippah.
The Tigers other three in-district recruits came out of Colbert County and Deshler, Ala.
“I am happy with our effort today,” Smither said. “I am very pleased what went on today. I want to thank our coaches for doing what they did. It was a great team effort.”
Northeast picked up a quintet from Class 2A champion Baldwyn.
Dorian Berry, Xzadrain Shelley, Shane Gordon, Perez Welch and Casey Copeland all signed with the Tigers after picking up the Class 2A Championship in December with Baldwyn.
Northeast also inked a pair of players from Booneville and Corinth. Blue Devils Andrew Southward and A.J. Stubbs along with Corinth Warriors Zerrick Payne and Tario Knight join the Tigers.
Alcorn Central's Lowell Gann and Ripley running back Jaquise Cook wrapped up the Tiger's Mississippi in-district recruits while Colbert County's Jamorris Ricks and Deshler High School (Ala.) Brandon Welch and Chris Holland will join the team for the 2009 season.
In its 2009 signing class, Northeast signed 32 individuals from the Magnolia state while Leroy, Ala.'s Anthony Payne joins Ricks, Welch and Holland from out of Mississippi.
Northeast added two more signees after signing day. Joseph Johnson from Southhaven High and K’yvari Bolden from Hoover High (Ala.).
