TIGER RALLY TOO LITTLE TOO LATE

BOONEVILLE, MISS. – Tiger rally fell short in the fourth quarter as the Trojans picked up its first win of the season in Moorhead on Thursday night defeating Northeast 14-7.

Delta gained control of the ball game in the first half and was able use that momentum to put six points on the board after kicker Parker Brocato (Leland) hit a pair of field goals to give the Trojans a 6-0 lead at halftime.

In the second half the Trojans and Tigers both went scoreless in the third quarter but Delta was able to add six more points in the fourth quarter, when RB Jarvis Smith (Drew) ran around the right side for the 6-yard touchdown that was followed by a successful two-point conversion to give the Trojans a 14-0 lead.

Northeast (1-3, 1-1)--who trailed the entire game--would finally respond in the fourth quarter when freshman quarterback Clint Wilson (Olive Branch) hit sophomore receiver Dominique King (Tuscumbia, Ala.) for a 22-yard touchdown strike to pull within seven points 14-7 after Tyler Turner (Horn Lake) nailed the PAT.

The Tiger fans then came to life after the score by King in hopes of rallying Northeast to victory, however, Mississippi Delta (1-3, 1-1) would weather the storm and ended the Tigers comeback hopes by forcing Northeast to turn the ball over on downs with under a minute left in the game.

Northeast finished the game with only 50-yards on the ground--led by Jeremy Cannon (New Albany) who managed only 38-yards on 14 attempts—and only managed 152 yards in the air as Wilson went 24-of-40 with one interception and one touchdown.

Mississippi Delta finished the game with 107 rushing yards and only 90 yards passing but it proved to be enough to give Trojan head coach Jay Miller his first win in 2009.

Northeast was led defensively by sophomore linebacker Adam Funk (Tupelo) who finished with eight solo tackles and four assists, followed by freshman defensive tackle Ky'Vari Bolden (Hoover, Ala.) who tallied up 13 total tackles in his efforts, and tackle John Brown (Lakeland, Fla.)  who had 11 tackles against the Trojans.

The Tigers return to action on Thursday, September 24th at Keenum Stadium in another key North Division game versus the Holmes Community College Bulldogs.

Kick off is set for 7 p.m.
