TIGERS AND LADY TIGERS SPLIT GAMES AT HOME

BOONEVILLE, Miss.-- Northeast Mississippi Community College men and women’s basketball teams were in action Thursday, November 20 at Bonner Arnold Coliseum where they faced the East Central Warriors and walked away with a split.

The Tigers improved their record to 6-2 overall defeating the Warriors 74-71 while the Lady Tigers dropped to 4-2 after a 12-point decision 97-85 in the night’s first hardwood action.

Bonner Arnold Coliseum was full of Tiger fans for the match up including pep band, pom squad, cheerleaders and the popular Tiger Nation student section.

With the crowd on hand, the Lady Tigers stepped onto the hardwood and found themselves down facing an early 11-0 deficit.

Northeast put five points on the board by the 14:12-mark making the score 11-5 but still trailed at the half 46-41.

In second half action, the Lady Tigers cut the lead down to four with 16:53 left to play, but that was as close as they would get in their efforts to rally from behind.

Bionca Hill was the top scorer with 25 points, followed by Suzanne Ford who finished with 15 points, and Eboni Crayton put 13 points on the board for the Lady Tigers.

On the men’s side, the Tigers opened up with a 6-1 lead early and kept it through the first half leading 39-33 at intermission.

The second half proved to be a change in momentum as East Central cut the lead down to two at the 9:40-mark 55-53 and eventually tied the score seconds later.

In the end it came down too the all so familiar free throw line, as Tiger guard John Sexton was put on the charity strip with only 2.8 seconds remaining in the game.

Sexton nailed the two free throws to seal the victory for a final score of 74-71.

“We played well in the first half then we kind of got off course, and it was partially my fault, but we came through at the end and I was glad to nail the two free throws at the end for the win” said Sexton.

With the victory the Tigers improved to 6-2 before the Thanksgiving break and they will return to action on December 1, when they face-off with Northwest Shoals at home. Tip-off for the Lady Tigers is set for 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. for the Tigers.
