LONG ADDS PRIZED PITCHER TO 2010-11 CLASS
BOONEVILLE, Miss. – Northeast Mississippi Community College softball coach Jody Long continues to fill out his 2010-11 signing class and the veteran coach landed a prized signee from the state of Ohio.
Long was able to get Fairfield High School's Jaisa Fox to sign with the Northeast softball program on Thursday, July 15.
Fox becomes the second out-of-state pitcher to sign with the Northeast softball program in a three-week span as Anchorage, Alaska's Jazmin Smith inked with the college during the National Fast-Pitch Coaches Association’s (NFCA) recruiting camp held on June 28 in Westminster, Colo.
Fox enters the Northeast program after a stellar high school career that saw the Fairfield graduate post a 70-28 record during her time with the Indians that included 40 shutouts and eight no-hitters.
Of the 95 games Fox started for Fairfield, the pitcher finished 90 while posting an 0.83 earn run average and struck out 840 during her high school career.
During her final year at Fairfield, Fox continued her domination of the opposition when she posted a 20-7 record for Indians and fanned 233 batters in 175 innings of work.
Fox was honored as the Journal-News Butler County Pitcher of the Year for the second time in her career following her senior year where she posted a 0.60 earn run average.
Fox is also a triple threat for the opposition. When not on the mound, Fox handles the hot corner (third base) while posting a .318 batting average and knocked in 15 runs during her final year at Fairfield.
Fox becomes the thirteenth player signed by Long for the 2010-11 period.
Long opened up the signing period in January by picking up West Union’s Claire Wilkerson and Kimberly Jumper and Tishomingo County’s Erin Williams.
Long got major commitments from four Booneville Lady Blue Devils in January as well. The veteran softball mentor was able to get letters of intents from Madeline Hickman, Hannah Hastings, Raleigh Downs and Nicki Whitten all on the same day.
Long added a pair of Kossuth Lady Aggies to the mix when the veteran mentor signed Haley Knepp on the same day as Williams signed and picked up Kelsie Follin later in the signing period.
Katie Beth Dahlem of Hamilton was the tenth player to join the Lady Tiger softball program on May 15 before New Site’s Bree Harris made her decision official in June.
Smith joined the list when she signed during the NFCA camp in June.
