NEMCC'S RANDLE NAMED ALL-AMERICAN
BOONEVILLE, Miss.-- Northeast Mississippi Community College freshman Shanika Randle (Houston) has been named a 2nd Team, D-II NJCAA All-American by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA). The organization also named the Tigers’ centerfielder a member of the South All-Region team; a group recognized as the top junior/community college players in the Southeastern United States.
Randle is the only player from a Mississippi two-year college to be selected as a 2007 NFCA All-American. Affectionately known as “Boo” to her teammates, Randle is joined by Meridian Community College shortstop Courtney Gordon on the NFCA South All-Region team.
“Boo plays the game the way it should be,” said NEMCC head softball coach Jody Long. “She’s confident. She’s never been intimidated when she stepped into the batter’s box. She gives 100% at every practice and every game, and keeps a smile on her face the whole time. I’m very proud of her.”
Randle led the Northeast Tigers in homeruns this season with six. The former Houston Hilltopper batted .353 with 49 hits, 14 doubles, 30 RBI, and only 14 strikeouts in 139 at bats. NEMCC’s centerfielder was a perfect 11 for 11 in stolen base attempts.
