COLUMBUS LADY FALCONS' STAR INKS WITH TIGERS
BOONEVILLE, Miss.-- Northeast Mississippi Community College head softball coach Jody Long has added Columbus High School senior Shantrell Jethrow to his 2007 signing class.
Jethrow was a standout performer for Coach Ame Fletcher’s Lady Falcons this past season, and was given the school’s Purple Heart Award as Columbus High’s best female athlete.
“We’ve been watching Shantrell throughout her career here at Columbus,” said Long. “The first thing we noticed was her speed and quickness. She can really run and put pressure on the defense anytime she puts the ball in play. When she’s on base she’s going to steal, plain and simple, and there’s not a lot a catcher can do about it.”
At the plate in 2007, Jethrow batted .369 with 12 RBI, 12 runs scored, and an impressive 15 for 15 mark in stolen base attempts while starting in the outfield for the Lady Falcons.
In signing with Northeast, Jethrow is following in the footsteps of former Columbus Lady Falcon and NEMCC star, Caterrika Lashley, who recently signed a softball scholarship with LeMoyne Owen College in Memphis, Tenn. after completing a stellar sophomore season at Northeast in 2007.
