1/15/08 TIGERS ADD SIX SIGNEES TO 2008 CLASS BOONEVILLE, Miss.-- Northeast Mississippi Community College head fastpitch softball coach Jody Long notched six signees to his 2008 recruiting class in a signing ceremony held at Bonner Arnold Coliseum on the NEMCC campus Tuesday morning, January 15. Outfielder Danielle Fredericks (Wheeler), catcher/infielder Lacey Mask (Booneville), infielder Sarah Beth Michael (Booneville), shortstop Whitney Speck (Myrtle), outfielder Christi Thompson (Wheeler), and pitcher/shortstop Samantha Yarber (Corinth) all signed softball scholarships with Northeast. “All these girls are excellent students,” said Jody Long. “They’re all good kids who work hard and come from disciplined high school programs. They should all fit in nicely into our program.” Michael and Mask are both four-year starters at Booneville High School. Michael sported a .420 batting average as a junior in ’07, while mask hit .397 last season. Yarber was voted as Corinth’s most valuable player as a junior in 2007, after leading the Lady Warriors in batting average (.386), on base percentage (.430), slugging percentage (.484), hits (34), RBI (21), doubles (six), triples (two), fewest strikouts (9), and stolen bases (11). Frederick and Thompson helped lead the Wheeler Lady Eagles to the school’s first ever softball playoff appearance in 2007. As a result, both Frederick and Thompson were voted First-Team All-Division following their junior campaigns. Frederick batted .391 with 25 hits, 26 runs, and 10 RBI in ’07, while Thompson batted .333 with 20 hits, 31 RBI, and 13 stolen bases. Speck led Myrtle with an impressive .440 batting average and led the Lady Hawks in steals, and RBI during her sophomore and junior seasons. ###
