NEMCC SOFTBALL GOES TO 14 WINS WITH SWEEP OF HOLMES

BOONEVILLE, Miss.--  Northeast Mississippi Community College's fastpitch softball team grabbed its 13th, and 14th wins of the 2008 season with a double-header sweep of Holmes Community College (5-21) on Saturday, March 29, in Booneville.

Northeast improved to 14-9 overall.

"We're improving with each right now at that's what I'm most excited about," said NEMCC head softball coach Jody Long. "Improvement is the name of the game at this stage in the season, because each week the challenge will get tougher and tougher, especially as we get deeper into division play."

In game one versus the Lady Bulldogs Amber Metzger (Oxford) got the win on the mound to improve to 8-3. Northeast was led at the plate by Samantha Thunderburk (Pine Grove) and Addy Brown (Tishomingo County) with three hits apeice. Northeast came away with an 8-2 win in game-1.

Game two's 11-3 win for the Tigers came from a fine pitching performance from Lisa Jansen (Frankfurt, Germany) along with three hits each from Kora Keith (Canada) and Shanika Randle (Houston), as well as two hits each from Nikki Johnson (Thrasher) and Callie Weaver (Houston).

Northeast will travel to face Itawamba CC in a North Divison double-header on Wednesday, April 2, in Fulton, Miss.
