FANTASTIC '08 SEASON ENDS AT 34 WINS
Tigers Finish 4th @ Region XXIII Tourney

CLINTON, Miss.-- Northeast Mississippi Community College's fastpitch softball team saw its season come to an end with a semi-final loss at the NJCAA Region 23 Tournament on Saturday, May 3, by a score of 5-3 to nationally ranked Miss. Gulf Coast CC.

However, 2008 was full of bright spots for Coach Jody Long's Tigers, including 34 overall wins and the program's 7th MACJC North Division title in the last eight years.

"It's tough to lose that way, when you're one win away from the Region championship game," said Long. "But I was proud of our girls. Gulf Coast is a fine team that was nationally ranked and we gave ourselves a chance. This has been a very rewarding season for all of us, coaches, players, parents, everyone."

With 2008 in the record books, eight Tiger sophomores will turn their attention to deciding which 4-year colleges they will continue their softball careers with next season. Veteran shortstop Callie Weaver (Houston) recently signed with Delta State University of the Gulf South Conference.
