NEMCC SOFTBALL STAR EARNS NATIONAL HONOR
Former Houston Hilltopper Named All-South Region

BOONEVILLE, Miss.-- Northeast Mississippi Community College softball star Callie Weaver (Houston) has been named to the 2008 First Team All-South Region squad by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA).

Weaver was a starting shortstop for Coach Jody Long at NEMCC the past two seasons, leading the Tigers to their 7th outright MACJC North Division title in the past eight years as a sophomore.

“Callie deserves a pat on the back,” said Long, “and there’s no greater compliment than when coaches from the region vote for you. She was the heart of our defense and a big reason we won the division this year.”

Weaver’s .394 batting average was second best on the Tigers’ squad in ’08 behind teammate Shanika Randle (.405), a recent Mississippi Valley State University signee who was also Weaver’s teammate at Houston High School. Weaver, a left-handed hitting shortstop, led the Tigers this season in doubles (19), homeruns (5), RBI (44), total bases (103), slugging percentage (.644), and walks (15).

Following the conclusion of the 2008 campaign, one in which the Tigers finished 34-20, 14-3, and in fourth place at the NJCAA Region 23 tournament, Weaver signed a letter of intent to play at Delta State University beginning in the Fall of ‘08.
