BARNES TRANSFERS TO NEMCC SOFTBALL
Former TCHS Standout Spent One Year at Northwest Shoals
BOONEVILLE, Miss.--Northeast Mississippi Community College head softball coach Jody Long has announced that former Tishomingo County High School standout Emily Barnes will transfer to NEMCC and will play for the Tigers during the 2008-09 season.
Barnes played this past season at Northwest Shoals Community College in Muscle Shoals, Ala., as a true freshman.
“I thought she did a great job while she was at Shoals,” Long said. “To go behind the plate when no one else would, proved to me that she is willing to do what it takes.”
Barnes appeared in 45 games for the Lady Patriots during the 2008 season garnering 38 starts.
“We wanted her out of high school,” Long said. “It just didn’t work out that way but when you bring in an instant sophomore after losing so many, she brings instant leadership to the team.”
The former Tishomingo County athlete hit .306 in 124 at bats including nine doubles, three triples and a home run. Barnes’ .452 slugging percentage ranked second on the team.
While a senior at TCHS, Barnes put together a .377 batting average and picked up All Division in slow- and fast-pitch. Barnes also was given the team’s offensive award in 2005 and defensive award in 2006.
