NEW-SHIFTED SCHEDULE FOR SOFTBALL FALL PLAY DAY
Set For Sept. 13 Event

BOONEVILLE, Miss.--Due to Hurricane Gustav’s landfall last week, Northeast Mississippi Community College head softball coach Jody Long shifted the schedule for the Lady Tiger Fall Play Day set for Saturday, September 13 at Booneville City Park.

Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College withdrew from the tournament after Hurricane Gustav dumped almost seven inches of rain on the Perkinston-based campus late last week.

Gulf Coast’s withdrawal leaves only five teams in this year’s affair.

Joining host Northeast is a trio of Mississippi-based community colleges and one Alabama-homed community college.

East Central joins North Division opponents Itawamba and Northwest while Northwest Shoals Community College from Muscle Shoals, Ala., rounds out the field.

All games will consist of seven innings or an hour and a half time limit – whichever is reached first with no new innings starting after the time limit has expired. Mercy rules are in place for 12 runs after three frames or eight after five innings.

If a game should end in a tie after regulation, the international tiebreaker will be used for the first extra inning and if a tie persists, runners will be placed at second and third with no outs to try to break the even finish.

After two extra innings, teams that remain knotted will have the game recorded as a tie.

Admission will be $3 for persons school age and above.

During the 2008 campaign, the Lady Tigers finished 34-20 overall and 14-3 in the North Division capturing their seventh division title in the last eight years and registered a fourth place finish at the NJCAA Region 23 Tournament.
