LADY TIGERS INK FORMER FAYETTE ACADEMY STANDOUT
BOONEVILLE, Miss. -- Northeast Mississippi Community College head softball coach Jody Long has announced that former Fayette Academy (Tenn.) pitcher Heather Young will toe the mound for the Lady Tigers during the 2008-09 season.
Young, a 2007 graduate of Fayette Academy, will immediately bolster a Lady Tiger pitching staff that was hit hard by graduation. All three starting pitchers for the 2007-08 season are no longer on the team.
Lisa Jansen signed with Mississippi Valley State University while Amber Metzger inked to play with Bethel College in McKenzie, Tenn. Teddie Eden transferred to East Mississippi Community College after completing one season with the Lady Tigers.
“Heather has a ton of potential. She could be a big boost for us,” said Long. “It is our job as a coaching staff and teammates to encourage her to reach her maximum potential.”
Young signed with Mid-Continent University after high school but left after the fall semester. The Fayette Academy graduate spent 2008 at Lambuth University in Tennessee before joining the Lady Tigers at the holiday break.
While at Fayette Academy, Young played for former Corinth High School softball coach Robin Stebbins.
During the 2008 campaign, the Lady Tigers finished 34-20 overall and 14-3 in the North Division capturing their seventh division title in the last eight years and registered a fourth place finish at the NJCAA Region 23 Tournament.
