MOTHER NATURE THROWS NEMCC SOFTBALL ANOTHER CURVE BALL

BOONEVILLE, Miss. – Mother Nature has thrown the Northeast Mississippi Community College softball team a curve ball once again.

Northeast’s North Division bout against rival Northwest Mississippi Community College was rescheduled Thursday due to inclement weather in the Booneville area.

Northeast softball coach Jody Long said the game would be played on Monday, March 16 at Booneville City Park starting at 2 p.m.

The Lady Tigers (3-9, 2-6 in North Division) were scheduled to play in the Northwest Invitational on Monday against Hinds Community College and Southwest Tennessee Community College in Senatobia but those plans were also scrapped opening the way for Northeast and Northwest to make up their division doubleheader on Monday.

Thursday’s delay marked the fourth time in the last month that the Lady Tigers have had to re-arrange their schedule.

Northeast’s season opener at the Pearl River Invitational in Hattiesburg was cancelled due to inclement weather and then a pair of home season openers struck out.

A date with East Central Community College on February 24 was moved when the Decatur-based college ran into transportation issues.

The Northeast TigerFest where Northeast was schedule to open its season against Bevill State (Ala.) also saw Mother Nature throw a curve ball in the plans when two-three inches of snow blanketed the Booneville region causing the cancellation of the 35-game, 12-team tournament.

Due to the schedule changes, Northeast now faces games on every day of the college’s Spring Break (March 16-20) except for Wednesday.

Northeast hosts Northwest on Monday, March 16 at noon and Southwest Tennessee on Tuesday at 3 p.m.

After a day of rest, the Lady Tigers continue to host when Three Rivers (Mo.) comes to Booneville on Thursday, March 19 for a noon doubleheader.

Northeast hits the road on Friday, March 20 for a 2 p.m. match-up against Northwest Shoals (Ala.) Community College in Muscle Shoals, Ala., before returning to Booneville City Park on Saturday, March 21 for the Lady Tigers’ annual Northeast Softball High School Exposure Tournament.
