NORTHEAST SOFTBALL SPONSORS ‘A DAY WITH ERNIE’

BOONEVILLE, Miss. – After the recent success with Northeast Mississippi Community College’s softball team, legendary softball coach Ernie Parker will return to the Booneville area to hold a clinic for youngsters on Sunday, April 19.

The clinic, entitled ‘A Day with Ernie’ is designed to help young softball players with game fundamentals and is held in conjunction with the Northeast softball team.

“Learning from Ernie is learning from the best,” said Northeast Mississippi Community College softball coach Jody Long. “He is a legend in the sport of softball.”

Parker will cover the basics of fielding and footwork as well as hitting and bunting basics.

Parker, a native of Cordova, Tenn., has won nine Amateur Softball Association (ASA) national titles at all levels with one team from California and has had a hand in forming national champions on the softball diamond.

Parker has worked with All-Americans at University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA), University of Arizona, Arizona State University, Stanford University, Ohio State University, University of Notre Dame, University of Michigan, Michigan State University, Florida State University, California State University at Long Beach, Harvard, University of Tennessee, California State University at Fullerton along with many other universities throughout the United States and around the world.

The veteran mentor has crafted pitchers in Peru, Canada, Taipai, China, Spain, Holland, Hawaii, Alaska and Italy.

Parker helped create one of the United States dynamic pitching duos early in his career when he helped Lisa Fernandez and DeeDee Weiman with their fundamentals.

“As a college coach and having most of his videos in which I learned from, I tell people Ernie has forgot more softball than I’ll ever know,” Long said. “He has helped my team and loves working and teaching the game.”

Parker’s clinic will run from 1:30-5:30 p.m. Cost is $40 for early registration and $60 the day of the event.

The clinic, which will be held at Booneville City Park, is open to any softball player from the age of nine through high school juniors.
