NORTHEAST SOFTBALL CONTROLS OWN DESTINY IN DIVISION RACE

BOONEVILLE, Miss. – Northeast Mississippi Community College’s softball team controls its own destiny in the Mississippi Association of Community/Junior College’s (MACJC) North Division.

Northeast (12-16, 7-7) split with Mississippi Delta Community College on Saturday, April 4 and fell a full game back of the fourth and final playoff spot in the North.

While the split hurt the Lady Tigers, Holmes Community College used it to its advantage and leapfrogged Northeast with a sweep of Coahoma Community College over the weekend.

However, Northeast controls its destiny in the division with dates left with all four of the teams above it in the standings.

Northeast will get a chance to improve its standing when the Lady Tigers host East Mississippi Community College on Tuesday – currently the Lady Lions are tied in the runner-up spot in the division at 6-4 after splitting with top-ranked Northwest over the weekend.

A date with the top-ranked Lady Rangers follows on Thursday before a break to set up what could be a play-in series against Holmes on April 13.

Northeast wraps up its home season with a date with Coahoma Community College on April 18 before the Lady Tigers end their regular season at Itawamba Community College on Monday, April 20.

Currently, Northwest has a six-game lead on the division with a 14-2 mark while East Mississippi and Itawamba are tied for second with identical 6-4 records but that will change since the two teams have four games left with each other.

Holmes (6-6) sits a game ahead of Northeast as Mississippi Delta, the team Northeast split with over the weekend, has a 5-7 mark.

Coahoma rounds out the seven-team division standings with a 0-14 mark.
