NORTHEAST SOFTBALL BEGINS FALL WORKOUTS WITH SEVEN-TEAM PLAY DAY
BOONEVILLE, Miss. – Northeast Mississippi Community College softball will begin its fall workouts with a fall play day against six other schools on Saturday, Sept. 12.
Northeast, which is coming off a fourth-place finish in the North Division, will host four other Mississippi community colleges along with a pair of four-year teams.
North Division foes Itawamba and Northwest make the trek to Booneville along with two-year schools – East Central and Northwest Shoals (Ala.) for the one-day play day.
Freed-Hardeman University from Henderson, Tenn., and the University of West Alabama (Livingston, Ala.) will also be on hand for the 11-contest day.
The round-robin affair will pit host Northeast against Northwest Shoals, Freed-Hardeman and West Alabama and offers a wide variety for each team.
In the guidelines for the play day, no four-year schools will face each other and no division opponents will face off against one another.
A twist to the play day is that the day will also serve as training site for the Mississippi Association of Community/Junior Colleges’ (MACJC) newly formed umpire association under the direction of John W. Smillie.
Admission to the play day is $5 per person school age and above.
