NE PLAYERS SERVE OVER 300 AT ANNUAL PANCAKE BREAKFAST
BOONEVILLE, Miss. – Members of the Northeast Mississippi Community College softball team opened up a busy Saturday schedule by providing over 300 participants with breakfast at the annual “Breakfast with Santa” held at the Booneville Westside Community Center on Saturday, December 5.
Sophomore outfielder Danielle Frederick (Wheeler) and freshman Taylor Moore (Bruce) led the Northeast softball team as the Lady Tigers sang Christmas carols, helped Santa out and put on a puppet show for those in attendance.
Northeast softball coach Jody Long did not get out of duty either as the veteran mentor cooked pancakes for three hours at the event.
“It feels great to help people that do not have much,” said freshman infielder Kelle West of Hamilton. “It feels good to make someone’s day.”
Northeast’s softball team began helping with the annual pancake breakfast in 2008 after being asked by Phi Theta Kappa sponsor Barbara Shackelford.
Moore pointed out that it was more than just feeding breakfast that was rewarding during the activity.
“It was heartbreaking to see the kids coming in there needing a coat but it was gratifying to know that we were helping them out,” Moore said. “They thought we were super cool because we were softball players.”
