NORTHEAST SOFTBALL INKS FIVE DURING SIGNING DAY EVENT BOONEVILLE, Miss. -Northeast Mississippi Community College athletic family grew exponentially Thursday night during the Northeast-Itawamba basketball games. Northeast held a signing event for baseball and softball to commemorate the National Junior College Athletic Association’s National Signing Day for baseball and softball. Thursday, January 15 marked the first day that high schoolers in those two sports could sign with two-year colleges. Northeast Head Softball Coach Jody Long added five recruits to the 2009-10 softball team when Ripley’s Camille Smith, Biggersville’s Nikisha Strickland, Alcorn Central’s Felicia McCalister, New Albany’s Paige Zallher and Kossuth’s Leslie Hendrix all accepted offers to play for the Lady Tigers. Smith is a pitcher and utility player for Ripley High School while McCalister, Zallher and Hendrix all have catching experience under their belts on the high school level.
