 LADY TIGERS IN ACTION AT NATIONAL TOURNEY
Play Opens Sunday, May 4

BOONEVILLE, Miss.--On Sunday, May 4, the Northeast Mississippi Community College women’s tennis team opened play at the 2008 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division-III National Tournament in Tucson, Arizona.

Day one saw Northeast’s top three players fall in singles competition. After taking the first set 6-2, Chelsae Faulkenbery (Ashland) fell 2-6, 2-6 to Allie Fisher of Rock Valley CC. Jarri Cartwright (Booneville) lost to Anastashia Lewis, also of Rock Valley CC, in two sets 4-6, 4-6. Also on day one Sara Wimbesh (Iuka) was defeated by Comejo Merryl of Hartford CC.

Northeast’s Mariana Lemus (New Albany) would compete in her first singles competition of the 2008 NJCAA National Tournament on Monday.

Under the direction of Coach Ricky Smither, NEMCC’s women’s tennis team will enter the consolation round on Tuesday, May 6. Team doubles competition will also begin on Tuesday.
